Paraplanning is a fundamental yet often overlooked part of financial planning. A paraplanner provides technical support for the financial planning team, working with the planner to provide the best service for our clients. Paraplanners often have the same qualifications and knowledge as financial planners and help to provide high-quality advice, giving planners more time to focus on you and your financial goals.

Our Head of Paraplanning, Catherine Lake, has played a vital role in the development of our business, and has been instrumental in building the capabilities of our paraplanning team over the past year.

Demonstrating the professionalism and commitment that really makes a difference, Catherine was appointed to this new role – created specifically for her – in January 2020. Since that time, she has revolutionised our paraplanning capabilities, working collaboratively to build a best-in-class paraplanning function worthy of a Chartered firm.

Her key challenge was geographical. Prior to Catherine’s promotion, each of our five offices across the UK had their own paraplanning team. As a nation-wide firm, we endeavour to provide a consistent service to our clients across all regions; Catherine recognised this need for consistency and worked to develop a cohesive paraplanning team structure and training scheme across all of our regional offices.

This has proven invaluable, as it has allowed client cases to be allocated to those paraplanners with specific expertise. Catherine has encouraged paraplanners to become experts in particular fields, building a team of specialists who can provide first class and specialist support to planners.  She also implemented a regional distribution scheme; by integrating the paraplanning teams across the country, cases are now directed exactly to where the expertise lies. This means that our planners can seamlessly triage cases to specialists, ensuring flexibility and fluidity in our planning process. Ultimately though, this gives you access to the best and most relevant expertise.

Paraplanning is a vital part of the planning process, and the team Catherine has built are confident, motivated and well-qualified. This cohesive approach plays a critical role in our commitment to providing you with outstanding service.

As testament to her successes as Head of Paraplanning, we are delighted to announce that Catherine has recently been shortlisted for Paraplanner of the Year award, as part of the Professional Adviser Awards 2021. The winner will be announced on 11th March.
